Geelong’s iconic Barking Dog transforms back into The Queen of the West

It's a new chapter in the captivating history of this iconic establishment, embracing a nod to tradition with a modern twist.

Geelong’s cherished hangout, the Barking Dog Geelong, is about to unveil a fresh new identity that pays homage to its roots and promises an exhilarating experience. As part of its exciting transformation, the beloved pub is set to regain its former title and become ‘The Queen of the West’.

Located at 126 Pakington St, Geelong West, the venue has been operating as The Barking Dog for the last decades or so. Prior to that, the venue was operating as Queen of the West from the early 1900s (1919 to be exact). In the 1800s, it was known as the Queen of the South.

In a nod to its past and with new owners at the helm, The Queen of the West will inject new life into the building and the famed street having undergone a bunch of exciting renovations.

The corner of Pakington St and O’Connell St, home to the pub’s front bar, is all set to echo the vibes of an old-fashioned pub with a contemporary edge. A blend of vintage decor and exposed original bricks will evoke fond memories and celebrate the establishment’s storied past.

Embracing the spirit of tradition, lovers of live music will be in their element as The Queen of the West brings back live performances to the front bar. Talented local artists will grace the stage, infusing the venue with an energetic atmosphere that music aficionados will relish.

As for the food, dining at The Queen of the West promises to be an elevated experience. Their diverse and extensive menu will cater to all tastes, featuring pub classics that range from indulgent parmi’s and succulent steaks to juicy burgers.

And for sports enthusiasts, there’s no need to compromise—large high-definition TVs will dot the bar area, ensuring that every exhilarating moment of the game is captured.

But that’s not all! The return of pool tables adds an element of friendly competition to the mix. Patrons can enjoy a casual game while sipping on their preferred drinks—a perfect way to unwind and socialise in Geelong’s west.

As for the restaurant, we hear there will be a sophisticated Italian restaurant serving tantalising dishes.
