Geelong’s Huxtaburger blaze up a limited-edition, hemp inspired burger

Geelong burger joint Huxtaburger joins forces with BUDS to celebrate 4.20 with the 'Mary Jane'

Never one to shy away from a campaign that turns heads, raises eyebrows and fills stomachs, cult burger joint Huxtaburger is at it again, this time blazing up a limited-edition, hemp inspired burger to celebrate 4.20.

Launching at, you guessed it, 4.20pm on April 20, burger lovers in Geelong can get their hands on the ‘Mary Jane’ burger, featuring a plant-based patty from Huxtaburger’s new partner, BUDS. In true tongue-in-cheek fashion, Huxtaburger has cranked up the flavour higher than ever before, pumping “Mary Jane” with some tasty hemp-based goodness.

Complimenting the BUDS patty is a super fresh, rocket and fennel salad tossed with a house-made zesty, hemp seed oil-based dressing and finished with a sprinkle of hemp seed. Chuck in tomato and red onion, and sauce this baby up with a plant-based herb mayo featuring basil, dill and capers.

The 100% plant-based powerhouse is around for a good time, not a long time though, and only available for one week from April 20. Get around it before it’s up in smoke.

“We’ve found the best tasting plant-based protein on the market with BUDS, as well as a brand that shares our passion to execute exciting products and marketing campaigns,” says Adam Katsonis, Brand and Marketing Manager of Huxtaburger.

“Not only is Mary Jane an obvious play on the name BUDS, it’s a burger that uses hemp-based ingredients to give our customers another kind of plant-based pleasure, a delicious tasting burger and a healthier, more sustainable option. With hemp-based products taking over shelves across the globe, why shouldn’t they be in a burger?”

Taking inspiration from classic, old-time dive bars, Geelong’s Huxtaburger marked the Melbourne store’s first opening in regional Victoria late last year. Huxtaburger Geelong packs a larger footprint, and features a full cocktail bar, pool and pinball machines for a retro touch and a banging sound system set up for the finest local selectors and live bands. Essentially, you’ll still get the traditional Huxtaburger restaurant that we know and love, but with full-service bar and various elements of entertainment backyard – a pop-up food container or similar, surrounded by a beer-garden style seating area. How good’s that?!

Head on down to Hunxtaburger at 64 Malop Street, Geelong and try the Mary Jane burger to celebrate the international day of cannabis pride on April 20.
