Geelong’s Best Busker competition returns for 2022

Tones & I Busking in Geelong

It's back baby: the Geelong Best Busker festival and competition returns to Geelong's CBD this year.

The streets are the perfect platform for unsigned artists to showcase their skills to the public – whether it be music, art or entertainment. Busking, one of the world’s oldest professions, allows artists to do just that.

After a year hiatus, Geelong will be harnessing the importance of uncovering hidden talents as it sees the return of Geelong’s Best Busker competition in December this year with a number of live performances in the Geelong CBD.

An annual event in the region run by singer Songwriter, Banjo Player and local legend Steve Thew, Geelong’s Best Busker competition provides the perfect platform for unsigned artists to showcase their talents to a previously untapped regional audience, as well as providing a key stepping stone for their career development.

Performances will feature musicians, visual artists, puppeteers and dancers from the Geelong region, all vying for the chance to take out the title of Geelong’s Best Busker through a series of heats and finals showdowns. Not only do buskers get their name out there, share their music and get to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, but there’s a range of prizes to be won.

The event will run on Saturday, December 17 in the Geelong CBD from 9am to 5pm.

The competition is held in and around the following areas:

  • Little Malop Street
  • Malop Street West
  • Geelong Foreshore

The heats for the Busking Competition are held prior to the commencement of the finals to be held on the same day.

Contestants are judged at each heat by one judge and six people from the heats in the morning will be picked to go through to the finals in the afternoon.  The six people to go through to the finals will be judged by three judges and are then showcased for a chance to take the winning positions.

All finalists will have the opportunity to playing at the finals on the Busking Stage at the festival on the same day.
