Geelong Region Cancerians are hosting their inaugural Art Show

Geelong Region Cancerians will host their inaugural Art Show over the Queen’s Birthday Weekend at Sacred Heart College McAuley Hall (Aphrasia Street Newtown entrance).

It will be open to the public 10.00-6.00pm on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 of June, and 10.00-4.00pm on Sunday June 9.

The exhibition will feature more than 100 paintings from artists in the greater Geelong region and from intrastate.

Prizes, donated by local businesses, will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd artwork judged by Paul McDonald Smith OAM on the Friday. All art on exhibition is for sale.

Attendees have the opportunity to vote for the people’s choice award, enjoy morning and afternoon tea or light lunches from the CWA and if they purchase a raffle ticket they are in the draw to win return flights for 2 to Kuala Lumpur on Air Asia donated by Avalon Airport.

Each year, about 2500 Australian women are diagnosed with uterine cancer, also known as cancer of the womb. The majority of these women are over 50. In Australia it is the fifth most common cancer diagnosed in women and also the most commonly diagnosed gynecological cancer. One in 60 women is likely to be diagnosed with uterine cancer by the age of 75. The five-year survival rate for uterine cancer is 82%. The Geelong Region Cancerians involvement with the ACRF is history making as Geelong is the first regional city in Victoria to have been formed and be affiliated with them. Their message that ‘together we can outsmart cancer’ is one they group have embraced.
