Geelong local launches GoFundMe to raise funds for newborn suffering rare life-threatening condition

A GoFundMe has been set up to raise funds for a Victorian couple whose newborn is fighting for its life.

Geelong local Mads Kirchner, who kickstarted a ‘pay it forward’ movement in Geelong with Geelong Healthcare HEROS raising money to go towards providing the region’s healthcare workers with a fresh, barista-made coffee, has now launched a GoFundMe, raising money for her close friend Casey and her partner Ned.

“On the 21st of July at 3.35pm Willow Jade Watts was born via emergency c section after Casey’s fight for a natural birth, a very long and tiring process and wasn’t the picture perfect birth she had hoped for,” the GoFundMe reads.

“Willow has been taken from Bendigo hospital to the Royal Children’s Hospital and placed in an induced coma for treatment of a life-threatening condition called Hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy which is caused by acute loss of blood and oxygen flow to the babies brain during birth and she will be receiving hypothermia treatment, to assist with slowing any further brain damage due to loss of blood and oxygen supply.”
Sadly, while Willow is being hospitalised in Melbourne, new mother Casey is recovering in Bendigo Hospital, hours away from where Willow is.
“I am asking for the help of others to contribute any monetary value to assist with travel costs, accommodation and allowing both Casey and Ned to not have to worry about financial burdens during this time.”
As of writing, the GoFundMe has raised $1635 with a goal of $10,000.
