“We’re proud to be Geelong’s only authentic Greek restaurant and we will be serving fresh, homemade, meals with signature dishes including charcoal octopus, moussaka, saganaki and gyros. This is a very exciting time for Geelong with its café and restaurant culture really thriving, and we’re very excited to be part of it,” he says.
Moussake? Yum! Gyros? Yes please!
“We want our customers to feel like they’ve been welcomed into our family and enjoy the experience of a traditional Greek gathering every time they visit us. If you’ve seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding, well, that’s exactly what it will be like. An amazing atmosphere and even better food. We’ve even got a bouzouki player lined up to play regularly,” he continues.
“We’re looking forward to showcasing some of our signature dishes. I’m from Rhodes and our Head Chef, who hails from Cypress, has quite a profile having worked in high-end restaurants around the world including stints in London and Sydney. He has even cooked for the King of Greece!”
Mav’s Restaurant Head Chef Akis Georgiou, said that he was looking forward to bringing his knowledge and skills of traditional Greek food to Geelong.
“I am very much looking forward to opening the doors at Mavs and sharing what our team has been working on in the kitchen. This restaurant is very much a labour of love and I think that will flow through to the dishes that we serve.
“I love experimenting with flavours and creating new dishes that I know people will love. My style of cooking is traditional but also unusual, adventurous and exciting, which is a great mix for Greek cuisine.”
Mavs Restaurant is set to open in early August with construction on the restaurant itself almost complete, awaiting infrastructure of the surrounding precinct.
The official opening will include a VIP launch with the restaurant opening to consumers the following day.
