Geelong glam rock band Glitter Gang returns to The Elephant & Castle this July

With their platform boots and unique sound, the Glitter Gang is back for a night of 70's Glam Rock.

Now surpassing 30 years of pulling on the jumpsuits and platform heels, the Glitter Gang are heading back to The Elephant & Castle Hotel this July, ensuring the main bar becomes inundated by the outrageous costumes, makeup, and hairstyles of this enduring local outfit.

Taking to the classic Geelong pub on Saturday, July 23 from 9:30pm until midnight (that’s right, two and a half hours of wild on-stage antics), the night will end in a hail of glitter as the Geelong superstars deliver an electrifying night with their unique and enduring homage to the hits of the 70s.

Stay up to date with all the epic events happening in and around the region here.

The glam rock band formed in Geelong in the early ’90s when a bunch of guys playing in The Finkers decided to do a set of ’70s classics at the Eureka Hotel.

Playing their first-ever show as ‘Yesterdays Heroes’ at the Barwon Club 30 years ago, they had no idea just how well-loved they would be, quickly becoming an important – and incredibly long-standing – part of Geelong’s live music scene. ‘Yesterdays Heroes’ didn’t stick though, and after performing as ‘Galactic Stardust’ for one show the band settled on ‘Glitter Gang’ as its new name and they haven’t looked back since.

Focusing on tributing 70’s legends, their current setlist includes a mix of British Glam and Aussie hits from The Sweet, Dragon, David Bowie, AC/DC, John Paul Young, Blue Suede, Suzi Quatro, ELO, Cheap Trick, KISS and Alice Cooper, Hush, Bay City Rollers, Alvin Stardust and Skyhooks – to name a few. Think songs like, Are You Old EnoughBallroom BlitzBilly Don’t be a HeroBoney MaroneyBye Bye BabyCan’t Stop Myself from Loving YouCoo Ca Choo; and everything in between, all the way through to SurrenderWhatever you Want and Yesterday’s Hero.

If you are a certain age, you will know every word to every song they play. It’ll be like watching Countdown, except you don’t need to be told by Molly Meldrum to Do Yourself a Favour.

Since their inception, the band has seen several members come and go, but always with the same enthusiasm and a trail of rock glitter behind them.

Unleashing the power of the 70s as only they can do, rest assured this band will deliver an absolute belter of a show when they take to that intimate stage at the Elephant next week.

Get your leather pants out, it’s bound to be a good night.

Catch them from 9:30 pm in the Main Bar on Saturday, July 23. Free entry before 9pm (so swing by for dinner) with $10 tickets on the door thereafter. Find out more here
