Geelong CBD cafe and restaurant, Ebony and Ivory, has closed its doors

Everything at Ebony & Ivory was hand made in-store from local and fresh ingredients to create the most authentic experience possible. We're truly going to miss that.

Known for its locavore Italian dishes in an artful site with a fireplace, banquettes and an outdoor terrace, Ebony and Ivory has become a beloved staple in the Geelong foodie scene over the past few years.

Located on Moorabool Street, the unique, cosy, and authentic European café/restaurant lured diners with its expertly crafted menu, consisting of specialty handmade pastas along with traditional Mediterranean inspired meals and contemporary Australian breakfasts to create a unique combination of cuisines and culinary experiences. Baked fresh every day. there was a variety of cakes and pastries to enjoy, along with specially chosen local and imported wines.

Now, in devastating news for the local community and small businesses, the cafe has announced it has closed its doors.

Taking to social media, the venue shared a final message for its loyal patrons.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce what many of you may already have guessed. Ebony & Ivory has closed for good,” the post read.

“We are very thankful for the support and patronage of our customers, regulars and friends made during our short time.”

The closure follows a couple of tough years for the business, with the lockdown, restrictions and decline in foot traffic in the CBD creating a number of roadblocks for the small business owners Brad Human and Jane Green, who ran the business with the help of their daughters Beth, Josie and Claudia.

The family took over the business at the start of March 2020 and had traded just 12 days before COVID-19 arrived in Australia. Despite the trying times of the pandemic, the business earned itself a spot in the local community’s heart for their Eurocentric dishes made with quality local ingredients, alongside the stellar service and welcoming atmosphere.

From the house-made ricotta gnocchi and the home-style smoked salmon panini, to the shelves overflowing with books and an inviting fireplace calling your name, we’re going to miss this little gem!
