Geelong Arts Centre have revealed their livestream performance program for June

With the cancellation of all scheduled performances and events and temporary closure of its building, the Geelong Arts Centre has thrived in adapting to life during shutdowns, continuing to bring a regular dose of creativity, direct from their theatres to our homes.

Following on from the success of Geelong Arts Centre’s May #WhereCreativityMeetsAtHome Live season, which featured the likes of Melbourne’s Queen of Cabaret Dolly Diamond, Australian musical theatre leading men, Bert LaBonte and Rob Tripolino and home-grown talent Taylor Henderson, the Geelong institution has just cracked the lid on their June lineup, featuring a fresh array of performances, from pop to cabaret and comedy, enabling the arts centre to employ Australian artists who have been hit hard by the impacts of coronavirus.

Kicking off on Friday, June 5, the June series begins with award-winning musical comedian, Gillian Cosgriff, who will bring her signature wit and outstanding vocals for a night of hilarious musical storytelling. A week later on Friday, June 12 multi-platinum selling recording artist, Australian Idol royalty and former Young Diva, Emily Williams will perform a selection of diva classics that defined a generation, as well as original chart-topping hits for everyone watching at home.

The following Friday on June 19, will see the Captain and Tennille of cabaret – Melissa Langton and Mark Jones – take us on a journey to the greatest decade of popular music, treading the stage in sequin boots to deliver a throat-scorching, disco-infused celebration of the best and the worst of the 1970s.

Rounding out the June series, Australian comedy sensation, Tripod will deliver their signature three-part harmonies, arranged with extraordinary complexity for a loosely choreographed, expertly timed comedy show on Friday, June 26. Since 1996, Tripod has gone from being three blokes singing silly songs with harmonies in pubs to three blokes singing silly songs with harmonies in concert halls, at musical festivals, on TV, on radio and in video games. This one will have you in stitches, we can promise you that.

“Our May live-stream season has exceeded our expectations, with audiences tuning in from our region, the state, and as far as Tokyo, Auckland, France and the UK,” says Joel McGuinness CEO Geelong Arts Centre. “We want to continue this momentum and deliver even more exciting digital content through June and, hopefully, well into the future.”

Although restrictions are slowly easing, it’s going to be a long time before we can all gather in a theatre or live-music venue, so this is a pretty simple solution to getting your usual arts and culture fix.

The live-streamed events are free, but Geelong Arts Centre is also calling for donations, large and small, to enable the regional arts organisation to continue to deliver digital arts experiences to the community.

Taking part is easy. Simply tune in at 8pm each Friday night via their live-stream takeover on Facebook or their website home page, sit back and enjoy! Audiences are encouraged to share their at-home concert experiences by tagging @GeelongArtsCentre and using the hashtag #WhereCreativityMeetsAtHome.
