As How I Met Your Mother's Barney Stinson coined, 'Suit Up' Geelong! It's time to get behind a good cause!

Did you know approximately 1 in 4 Australians over the age of 70 are likely to be diagnosed with some form of dementia? Did you also know that dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, is the second leading cause of death in Australia, accounting for 9.1% of all deaths?

Dementia is a cruel, debilitating condition that consumes the mind, characterised by a decline in cognitive function severe enough to interfere with daily life. An umbrella term, dementia covers a range of neurological conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, Vascular Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia, and Lewy Body Disease.

Most people know someone who has suffered with dementia, or are they themselves suffering from the illness.

It’s a story that has bound a Geelong committee together, each having a loved one living with or recently passed from dementia, in a fight to raise much-needed money and awareness for dementia research.

Teaming up with Barwon Health, the committee have put together a fundraising event in the form of a ball. Called The Forget Me Not Ball 2024, the inaugural event will be held on the evening of Saturday 19 October at the Federal Mills favourite restaurant 1915 Restaurant and Bar.

The The Forget Me Not Ball promises cocktails, canapés, and glamour as people dress to the nines for the formal yet fun event. This groundbreaking fundraising event, conceived by ten local young professionals from the sandwich generation, endeavours to be the hottest ticket and most entertaining ‘fun-draising’ evening on the calendar. The Forget Me Not Ball has a Cocktail Casino Royale theme and a formal dress code (black tie optional) all underscored by the musical stylings of DJ Tommy O and a surprise guest.

All funds raised from The Forget Me Not Ball will go towards dementia research, with the overall gathering aiming to foster a community of support and awareness in the local Geelong community.
