Gang Of Youths returned down under for their angel in realtime. Australian tour and as expected, it was monumental.

Gang of Youths are truly world-class, there’s no doubt about it.

Last week Gang Of Youths descended upon Rod Laver Arena, on Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13, as part of their highly-anticipated angel in realtime. tour of Australia and it was, in a word, triumphant.

The returning homegrown heroes were celebrating their third album angel in realtime which was released back in February and achieved a #1 ARIA Chart debut, a UK Top 10 debut and was honoured as triple j feature album.

Presented by Handsome Tours, TEG Live, WME, and triple j, Gang Of Youth took on Rod Laver for a sold-out show on Friday, August 12, cementing their status as not only one of Australia’s favourite bands but as a mammoth force in a live setting.

The band, with frontman Dave Le’aupepe at the centre, shredding on his guitar, strutting around the stage, or simply showcasing his incredible vocals, his bandmates pulled together a mesmerising instrumental operation to create an unimaginably perfect sound.

Beginning with a snippet of ‘you in everything’, the band opened with the stirring ‘the angel of 8th ave.’ – which was their first new music in four years – before tearing through the likes of ‘What Can I Do If the Fire Goes Out?’,
‘Let Me Down Easy’, ‘the kingdom is within you’, ‘The Heart Is a Muscle’, ‘Magnolia’, among others. Highlights were a performance of ‘The Deepest Sighs, the Frankest Shadows’ with support act and absolute powerhouse Gretta Ray as well as encore tracks ‘hand of god’ and ‘goal of the century’.

With supports from Middle Kids and the aforementioned Gretta Ray, this was a mind-blowing reminder of the heights these homegrown artists can, should and will reach.

Luckily our talented photographer Simon Pickering was there to capture the magic. And boy, did he deliver.  Check out our gallery above.

Undoubtedly, Gang Of Youths returned to Australia as bonafide national rockstars.
