GABF Homebrew Competition Returns

The Great Australian Beer Festival (GABF) today announced details of their 4th annual Homebrew Competition and called on all homebrewers who think they’ve got what it takes to enter.

After the huge success of the 3rd festival held earlier this year and the rapid growth of the craft beer industry, organisers will again be giving homebrewers the chance to put their beer making skills to the test and stand alongside some of Australia’s most renowned boutique breweries with their very own stall at the 2017 festival.

Grant Morley, winner of this year’s competition is preparing to brew his winning batch under the guidance of Little Creatures in South Geelong. You will only get to taste Grant’s beer at GABF 2016 on 6 February where he will have his own site to showcase it.

Festival Director Michael Ward said homebrewing is booming in popularity and attracts people from all walks of life. “We receive entries from as far away as NSW, Tasmania and South Australia. It’s great they come up with some truly innovative beers as this is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring home brewers to turn their commercial dreams into a reality,” he said.

The competition is kindly sponsored by Little Creatures with the assistance of the Geelong Homebrew Club – Grog Cobras. There are six categories in which home brewers may enter;

– Lager (Pale/Pilsner/Dark)
– Pale Ale (Australian/English/Bitter)
– IPA (APA, IPA, Imperial)
– Wheat (Wheat, Rye)
– Dark (Brown, Porter, Stout)
– Other (Fruit, Sour, Farmhouse, Belgian Style, etc…)

An expert panel of judges will consider appearance, aroma, body, flavour and technical quality as per the BJCP Style Guide. Beer submissions open on 18 January and close on Friday 29th so let the malting, mashing, boiling and fermenting begin! For entry forms and further information head to www.gabf.com.au.

Tickets cost $29.50+bf to the festival and are available from the website.
