This year, Ballarat’s annual Sunday sessions will feature an impressive range of local musicians, emerging artists, and household names, with more than half of the performers hailing from Ballarat.
Each Sunday will see four different acts on-stage between 4pm-8pm, with a spectacular fireworks display to cap off the January 15 show at 9.30pm over Lake Wendouree.
The first Summer Sunday session will take place on January 8 and feature the likes of Cassells, Pyrex, Steph String and The Seven Ups, while January 15 will host Mon Coeur, Chimpanzee, Queen of Heart Mariachi and JAZZPARTY.
This Summer Sundays concert at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens will then be capped off with the city’s annual Lake Wendouree fireworks display, 9.30pm on Sunday 15 January.
The following week will see four more musicians take over the gardens on Sunday, January 22, including the likes of Whizbang, Haven City, Armandou Jaly Suso and Sun Rising.
Rounding out 2023’s Summer Sundays, Sunday, January 29 will host Deborah N, Mick Dog, Ex-Olympian and Freya Josephine Hollick.
A limited number of bean bags were available for the audience to lounge, or people could bring a rug and picnic for a relaxed afternoon of free live music.
Alongside the music, a selection of Ballarat’s favourite food vendors will also be on-site serving up the best in local produce each week. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Sunday session without some cheeky beverages from the Garden Bar. This fully-licensed pop-up bar will showcase some of the Ballarat region’s best wine, craft beer and cider, and is the ideal place to relax and take in all the action with the best line-of-sight to the stage.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Des Hudson said the events would be a fantastic way to start 2023 in the city.
“What better way is there to kick back on a Sunday afternoon in summer than to indulge in some brilliant entertainment in your own backyard?” Cr Hudson said.
“As a Council, we are extremely supportive of live music and the creative industry and the latest Creative City Report Card shows how much the sector is booming in Ballarat.
“It’s going to be another terrific display of entertainment and the best part is, it’s absolutely free.”
The Summer Sundays concert series is presented by the City of Ballarat and runs January 8, January 15, January 22 and January 29 at Lake Wendouree.
