Five Local Instagram Accounts You Need To Follow

I don’t know about you, but I rarely go through my day without flicking through my Instagram feed a few (dozen) times.

If I’m not using it to catch up on what my friends ate for dinner, I’m oohing over cute pictures of pug dogs dressed up as Christmas trees and looking at some cool typography.

What I discovered recently though, is that we also have some pretty cool local Instagram accounts in the region that are definitely worth following.

So take out your iPhone (or, cough Android) and hit that Insta icon, because I’m about to tell you about five of the coolest Geelong Instagrammers going around.

1. @Grub_Guide

(Pictured above) I love food, like, I LOVE food. So naturally I want to see it on my Instagram feed everyday, right? If you’re like me then we have you sorted, because Grub Guide posts delicious pics of local meals and produce throughout the day.

We love their yummy recipe ideas as well as their shout outs to local cafes and restaurants. When it comes to major food envy or date ideas, Grub Guide is your number one source of everything scrumptious in Geelong.

While I can’t draw a straight line to save my life, there are plenty of folks in Geelong who can do that and more. In fact, they can draw, paint, sew, build, make and hand letter like no one’s business.

Geelong Creatives is a platform directory for some of the best local products in the region. They post daily, linking you to talented designers and local creatives who often get missed in the hustle and bustle of big business. Worth a follow if you love pretty and inspiring art pieces.

3. @GeelongStreetArtCollectivestreetartcollective

Proving that you don’t have to go all the way to Hozier Lane to view phenomenal street art, the Geelong Street Art Collective posts photographs of cool art in our own backyard.

As it relies on public contributions, you can see pics of creations you drive past everyday, and will come across art works you didn’t even know existed hidden in laneways through the suburbs. While this account is only updated every few weeks, it’s worth a follow because you see G-Town in a whole new light.

lovecentralgeelong4. @LoveCentralGeelong

The official Instagram account of Central Geelong, this gives you a fun insight into what’s going on in town. Posting photographs of local food, events, bars, venues and shopping opportunities, Love Central Geelong will keep you on the pulse of what makes the city tick and give you stacks of ideas for what to do on the weekend.

If you use the hashtag #lovecentralGeelong they may even feature your own photo on their account. Cool, hey?

5. @Forte_Magforte

Okay, so we know we’re a little biased, but seriously, you should check out Forte Magazine on Instagram. We post all the latest local music news, as well as any updates on festival and events.
