Five binge-worthy podcasts that mum would be proud you’re listening to

Clare Press

Looking for new listens this month? Keep the mothers day love going with these five mum-approved podcasts.

Bless the creation of podcasts. They can turn any dull moment into an enjoyable one, especially when the colder weather starts to hit and we’re confined to the insides of our house.

With the tick of approval from mum, these picks will get you through a long walk, a short commute or anything in between.

Wild with Sarah Wilson

Why Mum will like it: Sarah inspires you to be the best person you can be, and tells you how you can do it!

In her weekly show, Multi-New York Times bestselling author, activist, minimalist and former news journalist Sarah Wilson explores the big questions that haunt us: “Will we die from climate change? Can our rage save us?” and “Is being Australian a mental health crisis?” Sarah riffs with philosophers, creatives, poets, scientists (and at least one nun!) to find the answers.

In the lead-up to the federal election, Sarah is hosting a series of political-themed episodes in This Wild Election featuring special guests including; Mike Seccombe, the Grattan Institute’s Danielle Wood and Betoota Advocate.

The PJ Podcast

Why Mum will like it: Polly not only encompasses who every mum wants their kid to grow up to be like (funny, smart, curious) Polly has also just announced she’s pregnant! Lucky Polly’s mum getting grandkids (hint, hint)!

International radio queen – former host of Australia and New Zealand’s hugely popular Jase & PJ  radio show, Polly “PJ” Harding, has launched a new weekly podcast, The PJ Podcast. The show is distributed, hosted, and monetised by Acast.

The PJ Podcast promises laughs, connection, and foot in mouth moments and will feature new guests on the show each week, from comedians to sexologists and astrologers

The Dive

Why mum will like it: Knowing you’re keeping up with the business news of the day means you’re thinking about your finances and if you’re thinking about your finances…maybe you’re moving out soon?

The number-one finance and investing podcast network for young Australians, Equity Mates Media, has launched a new tri-weekly business-focused podcast, The Dive. Hosted by Sascha Kelly, The Dive brings business news beyond sensationalist headlines and unpacks global business stories. Unlike traditional business-focused podcasts, The Dive shares a broader perspective on the business news you need to know without the jargon that typically isolates listeners. In each episode, host Sascha Kelly and her colleagues answer questions inspired by the day’s news.

WARDROBE CRISIS With Clare Press

Why mum will like it: This pod ticks all the boxes when it comes to understanding the huge impact fashion has on the environment. She knew she raised you right!

Is it time to “DeFashion”? Should governments stop Unsustainable fashion? What is Waste Colonialism? Wardrobe Crisis is a fashion podcast about sustainability, ethical fashion and making a difference in the world. Host Clare Press was the first VOGUE sustainability editor, and each week she interviews international guests about the big issues facing the fashion industry. Get to know their personal stories, and be part of the change.

Principle of Charity:

Why mum will like it: It’s the one big lesson she wished you and your siblings would learn!

Principle of Charity injects curiosity and generosity back into difficult conversations, bringing together two expert guests with opposing views on big social issues. But here’s the twist: as well as passionately advocating their own views, each guest is challenged to present the best, most generous version of the other’s argument. This episode explores whether social impact is hollow virtue signaling  or  if it signals a profound shift in our attitude to capitalism, where the common good is finally put first. Bonus points, listen with a friend who is likely to have an opposing view!
