Head to Geelong’s Waterfront for the return of NYE fireworks

Prepare for the return of the most spectacular fireworks display.

In some truly sensational news for the region, Geelong’s free fireworks displays will return to the waterfront this New Year’s after what feels like a lifetime of restrictions, lock-outs and lockdowns.

Finally allowing us all to come together to celebrate and collectively slam the 2021 door shut, the return of the beloved annual event is just what we all need to ensure we go out with a beautiful bang.

Keep up with the latest in local events via our website.

Held annually, the free entertainment attracts between 20,000 and 50,000 visitors to the Waterfront for the final evening of the year and is a highlight on Greater Geelong’s social calendar. Like most years, the event includes an early 9:30pm fireworks display for children and families and the traditional midnight event, with both displays running for eight minutes.

Fireworks will be safely discharged from a barge on Corio Bay, so anyone with a view of the bay and city skyline will be able to enjoy the show! Of course, don’t forget to keep your pets safe and secure if you’re around the area.

Giving locals something to look forward to for their end of year celebrations, we were worried the event would be cancelled for the second year in a row after the Geelong city – alongside Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Gold Coast – all cancelled their NYE fireworks celebrations for 2020.
