Already the city has been blessed with a list of performers who have already taken part in the busking program, which is part of a $9million initiative that was first announced by the VIC government last year. Tones And I launched the series of pop-up shows back in December with Gordi, Vika & Linda, Kaiit and Hayley Mary appearing on the streets so far. Performance details for the On The Road pop-up gigs will be revealed the day prior via What’s On Melbourne’s Instagram.
Joining this talent-packed list of performers, Melburnians can expect the same deftly executed modern pop from NSW singer-songwriter we’ve fallen in love with over the past few years.
At a quick glance, it has been a busy couple of years for Fergus James, breaking out with his debut single ‘Golden Age’ and supporting Ed Sheeran on his Divide tour. In late 2019 he played the main stage at Splendour In The Grass after winning the Triple J Unearthed competition and completed his first sold-out headline tour.
With well over 23 million streams across his evocative catalogue, his latest release ‘Trouble’ comes as the fifth track shared from James’ sophomore EP, ‘A Slow Separation’ due out on March 11 via 100s + 1000s. It follows ‘Backseat’ last July, ‘Slow Separation’ in September, ‘Fall Short’ in October and ‘Saving Grace’ in December. The record itself follows up on 2019’s ‘All Of The Colours’ EP, as well as the standalone ‘Good Man’ single.
In addition to the aforementioned collaborators on ‘Trouble’, ‘A Slow Separation’ features songwriting input from Gordi, Dylan Nash (Angus & Julia Stone, Gretta Ray), Chris Collins (Middle Kids, Skegss) and Lucy Taylor (Dua Lipa, Ellie Goulding). According to James’ label, the EP will play out as a coming-of-age soundtrack that explores “the highs and lows of young adulthood.
Shortly after its release, James will embark on a five-date tour of the Australian east coast, hitting intimate stages in Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle and Melbourne. This is your chance to see Fergus James in his rawest form right in the heart of Melbourne.
Catch Fergus James on the corner of Hardware Lane and Little Bourke Street, at 4:30 pm on Friday, February 25 2022.
