Having gifted us ALMA, a contemporary South American shared-style restaurant back in 2017, Felix is the sister restaurant that radiates just as much elegance as ALMA in its own inimitable way. Felix sees Hughes, Sarah Horsburgh, Matt Baird and the rest of the ALMA team building on their winning formula of a distinguished menu, edgy styling and exceptional service, delivering yet another decadent dining experience.

From the first look, the newly-opened venue oozes charm with its outrageously beautiful space, featuring European-inspired interiors, set inside the hidden building up Downes Lane.

The graceful venue was designed by Elly Featherstone at Flux interior design, with a mission to create an elegant and refined space that’s comfortable enough to relax in. The design incorporates decorative pattern, beautiful timber, black accent, and a rust pink, brown and beige colour palette, that symbolises warmth and sweetness, whilst still being unapologetically extravagant.

With neutral limewash walls, cosy leather booths, a bold burst of colour with a stunning cladding feature wall alongside the hand-crafted finishing touches, Felix exudes classic European sophistication.

The menu is refined and beautiful, focusing on a celebration of seafood, vegetables and fine beverages. The straightforward way dishes are presented on the menu – as a tidy list of ingredients – belies the clever technique and skill behind them.

Here you’ll find oysters with a delicate shallot and red wine vinaigrette; root vegetable galette with mushroom and truffle; whipped mortadella; a lobster salad; and a gentle Ars Italica Oscietra Royal Caviar with crème Fraiche and potato beignets.

You know the menu is good when you can’t pronounce the items, right?

Further highlights include a dry-aged whole duck; pan-seared sea bream with leek and butter sauce; Orzo with mushrooms and cheese; and roasted eggplant with tomato and parmesan.
The opulence doesn’t stop there. Save room for the desserts, with chocolate, banana and caramel with choux bun; a blue cheese tart with quince ice cream and hazelnut; and pistachio, mandarin and amaro.

Rounding out the finest new venue in town, you’ll find a beautiful wine list and selection of top-shelf drops, and the staff are possessed with noticeable poise, pushing the experience beyond expectations.

This is everything great about elegant fine dining in Geelong.

Felix is located at 9 Downes Lane, Geelong and open Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm until late. You can book here.
