Fear and Saturday Night at the Capital Theatre

Bendigo’s Capital Theatre has struck gold again, this time snaring Ryan Bingham as part of his ‘Fear and Saturday Night’ tour, named after his album of the same name.

Ryan was born in New Mexico and raised across the Southwest. Scoring his first guitar as a sixteen-
yearold, he would keep it in a closet for around a year before a neighbour inspired him to play.

Former Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford would produce his major label debut, 2007’s Mescalito, as well as 2009’s Roadhouse Sun. 2009 was a fruitful year, with the songman appearing as ‘Tony’ in the Jeff Bridges movie Crazy Heart. He also performed two songs for the movie, including ‘The Weary Kind’ which would win ‘Best Original Song’ at the 2010 Academy Awards and Golden Globes.

It would also pick up the gong for ‘Song of the Year’ at the Americana Music Association Awards. As for Fear and Saturday Night, that is Bingham’s fifth album. The singersongwriter wrote most of the album’s dozen tracks alone in an airstream trailer, parked in the mountains of California. Members of the group Rose Hill Drive were recruited as Bingham’s band.
