With kick-off bearing down on us, we thought we should take a bigger (and hopefully brighter) look at the Face the Music industry conference. In a nutshell, Face the Music is one of the most important events on the musical calendar. Reaching out to the music-loving community, the conference provides those with an ear for music opportunities to enhance their skill set. What is coming your way is two days of presentations, discussions and networking and music-making workshops, plus the hottest tips and tools to give your music career the edge. And boy do they have you covered, with high profile artists, booking agents, promoters, artist managers, music lawyers, record label directors, event managers and publicists all lending their time and knowledge. 2014’s keynote speakers are two gems. Jen Long is a music journalist and DJ from the UK. She is the music editor at DICE, the voice of BBC3 and a sought-after DJ. You also have Steve Albini. Albini’s name is worth its weight in gold. He has engineered over 1500 albums, including acts such as Nirvana, Pixies, The Stooges and PJ Harvey. His band, Shellac, recently clocked up 20 years. The best thing you can do right now is take a look at facethemusic.org.au. Go on, work can wait. Arts Centre – November 14 & November 15.
