Extensive Music Program announced in conjunction with upcoming exhibition Amy Winehouse

The Jewish Museum of Australia is thrilled to announce an impressive music program running as part of Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait, from October 22, 2017 until March 25, 2018.

The program is presented by the Jewish Museum of Australia in partnership with cultural partners including the Jewish International Film Festival (JIFF), Virgin Australia Fashion Festival (VAMFF) and St Kilda Festival.

Featuring a Thursday Nights series, visitors get the chance to check out the exhibition, while enjoying live performances and drinks. Each event in the Thursday Nights series celebrates Amy’s varied musical genres, with evenings dedicated to jazz, soul, gospel, motown and hip-hop.

In January, the Museum will host a night of Gospel, where guests can participate in an acapella rendition of Winehouse’s ‘Back to Black’ to celebrate the magic of choir guided by Melbourne Indie Voices’ very own Phia. In February, the program dives deep into the music of Motown with PBS FM’s Motown maven, DJ Vince Peach. The series ends with a celebration of hip-hop, Winehouse’s last love, with tunes curated by DJ MzRizk who has supported international hip-hop superstars including Mos Def, Public Enemy, Jill Scott, The Daptones and Jurassic 5.

For those looking for a weekend event, get up close and personal with Amy Winehouse impersonator Ashleigh Kreveld on Sunday 3 December, who’ll be belting out classic Winehouse tunes, beehive and all.

For music events happening off-site, The Jewish International Film Festival (JIFF) and the Museum co-present some hip-swaying, soul shaking Amy-inspired jazz on Thursday 2 November at the Lido Cinema in Hawthorn. The fabulous Ruth Rogers-Wright and Fem Belling will be joined by the Mark Fitzgibbon Trio to play the jazz standards of Amy Winehouse.

The flagship music event of the Amy Winehouse exhibition is a retrospective of her catalogue and influences. This incredible tribute at Memo Music Hall features an all-star band led by Jazz Party leader Darcy McNulty, with singers including Kylie Auldist, Alma Zygier and Elana Stone (All Our Exes live in Texas).

Tickets will be limited. This series is brought to you by the Museum and Hear Them Holler.
