The rock-solid, high-energy driving force of ‘Kiss Your Friends’ explodes behind easy-to-listen-to lyrics, zealous in nostalgia and adolescence. A perfect storm of fuzzy lead guitars and frontman Liam Brennan’s perfectly lazy, carefree vocals suggest, encourage, and plead with us to cling to youth while we can and smooch it up.
‘Doctor’ leaves no cloud of dust behind as it screams into a 90-second rollercoaster ride full of The Grimwoods uniquely twitchy energy; shrieking synths and banshee wails in the backseat as the sentiment of wasted potential takes the wheel.
‘The River’ stands out as a well-matched love affair of poetry and the groups recognisable steady bass and powerful caterwauling guitars as Djilang based author Joshua Baird narrates in easy, breathless tone. A build in guitars dripping with feedback, lightly psychedelic keys playfully running over the top and twangy thrum create an otherworldly sense as Baird takes you on a wicked journey with no end in sight.
Kick off your jeans, pour yourself a glass of red and enjoy the ride; paired well alongside these other Aussie jams;
