Star Cinema has announced the programme for the fourth annual Eaglehawk Film Festival which it will be hosting in January 2025.

- When: 17 – 19 January 2025
- Where Star Cinema, Eaglehawk Town Hall, Peg Leg Road
Star’s business manager Martin Myles said that he is excited to build on the success of 2023’s festival with the new theme ‘Alive’
“We had a fantastic turn-out for EFF 2024 which was curated around the theme ‘Angels’,” Myles said.
“Eaglehawk Film Festival was established in 2022 as an entirely new model where we focus on a different theme each year and curate the content around that. Most film festivals focus primarily on brand new content with the occasional retrospective. Events like Melbourne International Film Festival and others around the world, already do this very well.
“Eaglehawk Film Festival offers something new as an alternative to the ‘standard’ film festival model. With each new year and theme, we put together a programme of hand-picked titles and include as much diversity as possible in terms of culture, era and genre.

“Last year’s theme was Angels – it was encouraging for us to see a great turnout and many people investing in festival passes to enjoy multiple films across the weekend. We screened films from all over the world including an early (1937) classic starring Marlene Dietrich, Burt Reynolds’ debut film from 1961 and many more – the best attended film was the opening night from 2007 with an all-star cast.
“2025’s theme is Alive; we’ve taken a deep dive into the vaults and come up with some fantastic titles for you to enjoy on the big screen – a rare opportunity.
“Highlights include; the 1958 comedy romp, Alive and Kicking, the edge-of-your-seat true story, Alive from 1993 and a 2014 epic Korean drama. There’s something for everyone!
Myles said that Eaglehawk Film Festival is a pinnacle event for Star Cinema which also hosts the Alliance Francaise French Film Festival (April) and Melbourne International Film Festival (August).
“I have always had an ambition for Star Cinema that it be known as a festival destination and that we attract people from central Victoria and further afield.

“Also, as a by-product, it is my hope that, between films, festival attendees will explore more of what Eaglehawk has to offer. Eaglehawk is one of Victoria’s best kept secrets and there is a lot for the visitor to experience here.”
The fourth Eaglehawk Film Festival commences Friday 17 January at 7pm kicking off with a bio-adventure Alive (1993) starring Ethan Hawke.
The festival will run through until Sunday 19 January. Patrons can experience Alive through the decades going back to the 1950s with films from UK, USA, Korea, Russia, France and Albania…. 7 titles in all!
“All the usual frills are on offer including film festival passes, merchandise and that great feeling of being a part of a special event,” Mr Myles said
