IMAX Melbourne will exclusively show DUNE: PART TWO on both IMAX 1570 Film and 4K Laser, securing one of 12 worldwide film prints and being the only cinema in the Southern Hemisphere to do so.
Prepare to be immersed in the cinematic grandeur of DUNE: PART TWO as IMAX Melbourne takes center stage as the sole cinema in the Southern Hemisphere to exclusively showcase the much-anticipated sequel on both IMAX 1570 Film and 4K Laser.
Director Denis Villeneuve’s decision to shoot the entire film on IMAX Cameras means select sequences will expand to fill IMAX Melbourne’s seven-story screen, offering 40% more picture compared to regular cinemas and transporting audiences right into the heart of Arrakis.
In a bold statement, Denis Villeneuve, director of DUNE: PART TWO, expressed his belief in the future of cinema lying in large formats: “The audience wants to see something that they cannot have at home, that they cannot have on streaming. They want to experience an event.”

This announcement follows IMAX Melbourne’s triumphant OPPENHEIMER IMAX 1570 Film season, boasting over 67,000 admissions and a staggering $2.5 million in box office revenue—an outstanding achievement for a single-screen theatre.
Jeremy Fee, IMAX General Manager, shared his excitement, stating, “We’re extremely excited to showcase DUNE: PART TWO in the most immersive format possible exclusively at IMAX Melbourne. Fans of the DUNE franchise will be treated to more epic expanded aspect ratio sequences on both IMAX 1570 Film and 4K Laser that will take them to the edge of their seats.”
To kick off the DUNE excitement, IMAX Melbourne will screen DUNE: PART ONE from February 9, including a sneak peek at DUNE: PART TWO, an introduction from director Denis Villeneuve, and appearances by stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, along with additional thrilling footage.
DUNE: PART ONE, released in 2021, marked one of IMAX Melbourne’s best-performing films, drawing over 39,000 movie-goers eager to experience the extraordinary feature.
Tickets for DUNE: PART TWO on both IMAX 1570 Film and 4K Laser will be available for purchase on February 8 at 10 am for Big League members and 11 am for the general public.
