As summer comes around everyone begins to head to the coast, and an event you won’t want to miss in the fun-filled event Drink Arts Food Torquay and Bell Street Fiesta, both with a focus on local.
The event was revitalised in 2010 (it first began in 2007) when a group of keen committee members and Torquay Commerce and Tourism and Surf Coast councillors saw the opportunity to renew the concept. Now several years later, this year’s event will take place on October 10 and 11, and provide an array of local products, produce, beverages, art and music from throughout the region.
Entertainment will be supplied by local musicians The Kite Machine, Mad House and Old Feather, Painters and Dockers, Macondo Blowout, White Bleaches, Pandora, My old Dutch. A fun and exciting way to catch the live entertainment comes with the ‘Bells Beats Bus’ which gives you access for five hours (cost is $20) and you’ll get to visit various different restaurants, bands and have a great night out with friends (Saturday, October 10, 6-11pm).
Another big element to the festival is ‘The Torquay Celebration’ where you not only get a three-course lunch put together by local chefs and featuring local produce, but you’ll also get live entertainment and a ticket to the ‘Bells Beach Bus’ and ‘Bell Street Fiesta’. Part of this celebration involves the art competition held during the weekend. (Saturday, October 10, 1-4pm).
If you’re saving yourself for a Sunday session, keep Sunday, October 11 free for the Bell Street Fiesta, celebrating all things local. Throughout the day enjoy in free beer and wine tasting, kids entertainment, jumping castles, three stages with live bands (The Kite Machine, Mad House and Old Feather), stalls, skate parks and much more. (Sunday, October 12-7pm).
Running for several years now the weekend serves as a great opportunity to catch up with friends and family and celebrate everything the region has to offer, and of course in the beautiful surrounds of Torquay and Jan Juc.
