When it came to feeling out forthcoming new album Drive, Chris Russell, ringleader of Chris Russell’s Chicken Walk, stopped listening to music altogether. Instead, he headed down the rabbit hole of film noir, and the result sounds very interesting indeed: “Elemental, natural and supernatural, full of hurricanes, mermaids and femme fatales, Drive comes on like scenes from a southern gothic neo-noir. There’s vice, danger and beauty everywhere. Venous snakes, all night diners, armed hold ups, mermaids and demons.” The Loft, Warrnambool – October 1; Major Tom’s, Kyneton – October 2; and The Barwon Club, Geelong – November 13. The album features the recording debut of drummer Dave Folley.
