Three of Geelong's hero venues are going all out for finals footy season with live game viewings and specials a-plenty!
After a mammoth rollercoaster season that saw the ladder chop and change more times than the weather this week, the AFL finals kicks off tomorrow with exciting head-to-head games leading up to the big Grand Final on Saturday 28 September.
With our very own champion football team Geelong taking on Port Adelaide tomorrow night, Western Bulldogs battling Hawthorn on Friday 6 September, and two games of Sydney Swans versus GWS Giants, and Brisbane Lions versus Carlton on Saturday 7 September, this week is huge for footy fans.
If you’re not feeling the fever at the game, the only other place to be is at the pub watching the game on the big screen with a pot of beer in hand and your mates by your side. Three of Geelong’s favourite venues have you covered, with Pakington Street’s Queen of The West, Aberdeen Street’s Murphys and Little Malop Street’s Eureka Hotel all putting their best forward for the finals affair.

Geelong West’s revamped Queen of the West has long been a favourite watering hole during football season, thanks to their dedicated sports bar area. Showing live games across AFL, NRL, basketball, and cricket on multiple screens throughout their venue, Queen knows the way to a sports lovers heart.
For the finals they are getting behind the local Catters, showing the game across their big screens and offering a bunch of specials for fans. With the game kicking off at 7.40pm on Thursday 5 September, Queen will have a footy finals snack menu on offer, and run a raffle from the hour before the game until the end of half time. Live and Loud will also be happening in the sports bar to keep the spirits high! Free to book, you’ll want to get in early to get a table!
In addition, they are steaming up for the Grand Final, again running happy hour from 12pm until the first siren with footy food specials, and post-game entertainment with live music running all night!

Murphys

Not just a favourite for cover bands, Geelong’s favourite Irish pub Murphys is getting into the footy spirit for finals. The Aberdeen Street venue proudly state – “if it’s on Fox Sports, it’s on at Murphys”. Always broadcasting live sport in HD throughout the whole venue, the finals will be no different. Adding to the appeal, Murphys will be hosting a halftime raffle giveaway with every drink purchased during the game earning you a raffle ticket – if there ever was a time to get on the beers… The draw runs from the first siren until the end of half-time, giving you a chance to win a venue voucher.
There will be Live and Loud and live music happening on the entertainment front and a specials menu of roaming footy snacks during the game, and happy hour running from siren until half time.

As we circle around to town, Eureka Hotel is the place to be. With their massive refurbishment came not only a dedicated bandroom and a renewed rooftop, but a live sports sanctuary. Loyal to the Cats, every Geelong Cats game is screened live at the venue along with AFL, NRL, basketball, and cricket live from Fox Sports. It’s no surprise then that the Thursday Cat’s versus Port showdown will be a special one. Specifically for the game, happy hour will run siren to siren with $9 schooners, $8 house wines and $15 Finals Fever Cocktails. The game will be showed live on the projector and on the televisions venue wide.
For all other games in the finals period, they will have Footy Fever snack on offer between 5.30pm and 9pm including Crispy Chicken (3)- $12 (Choice of Buffalo, Ranch or Sweet & Sour Sauce), Maple BBQ Pork Ribs & Apple Slaw- $12 and Classic Hot Dogs- $12 Bacon & Onion Jam, Fried Shallots, mustard, tomato sauce & cheese on a brioche bun.
Cut to Grand Final Eve on Friday 27 September, a public holiday to get behind, Eureka Hotel will be running a full a la carte menu from 12pm until 9pm with live music from local legend Levi Anderson from 8.30pm – 11.30pm. On the big day itself, Grand Final Day, Eureka are going all out. It starts with a boozy brunch from 10am – 12pm which includes a big breaky and unlimited access to make your own cocktail station and mimosa bar for only $75 (bookings essential), followed by a full a la carte all day menu running from 12pm, complimentary half-time roaming footy snacks to share, and the final chance to get in on the $15 Footy Finals Cocktails. Outside of the footy clash happening on the screens you can enjoy pre and post game live music. Patrons are encouraged to wear your footy colours and join in on the celebrations.
