Arriving four years after her ARIA-nominated sophomore album Don’t Sleep, which spat out single ‘In My Mind‘, Do What Makes You Happy sees Ivy nestle into her collaborative and creative cocoon alongside the aforementioned Kah-Lo and BJ the Chicago Kid, along with Sam Austins, Josh Teskey, chlothegod, Elohim, Sam Sparro and Gangs of Kin. Already released singles saw further collaborations with Låpsley on ‘Popstar’, Mallrat and Jelani Blackman for ‘Broke My Heart’ and Mayer Hawthorne on ‘Howlin’ At The New Moon’.

Spawning from back to back writing session in the US at a time of universal isolation, the album reflects the catharsis of rediscovering art in all its forms.

Do What Makes You Happy was written at a time where so many people were finally experiencing the freedom to do what gives them the most joy in life again, it was felt in the production, every vocal line and the photography and art. I like to think of every layer of this record as art at its purest and most natural form,” Alice Ivy explains.

“Everyone I worked with was so enthusiastic and grateful to be able to create in studios again, and to just simply connect with people on that level. I feel like I captured most of the collaborators on this record at their rawest, you can hear it in the vocal recordings.”

For single ‘Criminal’, the Nigerian American sing-songwriter Kah-Lo feature with incorporated vocals from BJ The Chicago Kid takes on a blend of all artists repertoires for a dancefloor ready club anthem. The meet-cute with Kah-Lo happened backstage at Splendour In The Grass.

On the live front, Alice Ivy is gearing up to head on the road announcing a Do What Makes You Happy headline tour across Adelaide, Melbourne, Fremantle, Brisbane, Sydney and Hobart. The tour commences shortly after Ivy returns from a supporting tour with San Cisco through May.
