The response to Diesel’s ‘Pieces of Americana’ tour has been pretty fantastic, so much so that further dates have been added.
Some 25 years after the songman first broke hearts as the ringleader of Johnny Diesel & the Injectors, the man born Mark Lizotte has established himself as one of the country’s finest performers. Eight studio albums and six ARIA Awards tell the story.
As for the tour, that lends its name from Diesel’s upcoming album of the same name which will hopefully drop some time around midyear. For those not keeping tabs, the album will see the singersongwriter tackle Springsteen’s classic ‘Born to Run’.
It’s a decision not taken lightly. Diesel: “It’s like someone saying, ‘I’m going to rewrite the bible’. You just don’t touch it! But I thought, if I’m gonna make an Americana album, I may as well get in the ring with Muhammad Ali – the featherweight’s gonna take on the heavyweight and we’ll see what happens. So, if Born to Run is a stranger, I’m going to go right up to that stranger on the street and kiss ’em on the lips. That’s it.” Gateway Hotel, Geelong – June 3.
