Didirri On Tour

It’s a clear night in the Rat, but a real bone chiller as the loyal folk that have ventured out to Karova Lounge wait patiently for up and comer Didirri to hit the stage.
There is a real theme of girl-power tonight as women dominate the stage and the audience! Kat Edwards from Tassie is opening up for the night and her guitar playing and vocals are really impressive, although there is a theme of sadness through her music which could be insistent to some. The crowd dug her though, and punters are starting to roll in at quite a rate.
Morton are up next and lead vocalist Georgia plays a lovely old Guild and has fellow band member Lee accompanying her on guitar for the night. Really lovely voice, but sadness seems to be a bit of a theme for the night, however the crowd are most appreciative and and it’s not long before Didirri takes centre stage.
If you could imagine a combination of Neil Young and Robert Cray, you get somewhere near the sound of Didirri. The back story to some of his songs are really quite captivating and highlights of the night are ‘Bird Sounds’, ‘Formaldehyde’ and the fabulous sing-a-long ‘Last Night’. There is even a song about his dog “Jude” who is apparently the most beautiful dog in the world! Closing track of the night ‘Worth The Wait’ was certainly that with it’s dynamic highs and lows and for a three piece, the band pull a great sound.
On-stage charisma and relatable depth clearly attracts an audience that are real “listeners”, and there is very little chit-chat on the dance floor as punters really soak up a great night from an artist approaching real issues, whilst being heartbreaking and healing at the same time.
Big things ahead for this young man and hopefully he comes back to Ballarat in the not too distant future. Now did I mention how cold the walk home was…
