Did Didirri single-handedly just unite us all?

Didirri has unveiled his latest track ‘Don’t fight with what you’re fighting for’ and featured a star-studded Australian music line-up in his video-clip spreading a 3.56-minute message of hope to all.

But the philosophical singer-songwriter admits, the track wasn’t meant to be a single release at all.

“We brought the team forward after my team suggested now was the right time,” he said.

“I wrote it about not being hypocritical and sticking to your morals. When I wrote it, about a year ago, I was speaking more generally.

“And it speaks to what I want from people now; to do right and practise what they preach.

“This song was definitely opposed to my usual process. The lyrics were written in a book and there were 12 verses originally with no melody, I just had a poem.

“I started jamming with my band and my drummer started a slow beat and I was playing an old out-of-tune piano which is the one you hear.

“It happened from an organic place.”

Besides from the uplifting video clip (above), ‘Don’t fight with what you’re fighting for’ is a poignant reminder to stay true to yourself.

Didirri once again shows off his versatility as the track moves away from his usual sound, and yet still rings true to the artist we know.

The horn cameos mimic Didirri’s ethereal vocals for a melancholy moment and with lyrics such as ‘Shooting shadows in the bed/We all cast shadows on the dead/It’s always coming at you when you’re slow/Just take your time to let it heal’, the song allows you to stop for a moment and reflect.

‘Don’t fight with what you’re fighting for’ is a timely release and one we all need to pay attention to for our own sanity in this tumultuous time.

After being forced to postpone his tour until later this year, Didirri is using this downtime to be creative and take up new opportunities.

Last week he was a part of the first Isol-Aid, an Instagram live concert featuring over 70 artists, and this Sunday at 12pm he will be a part of the global World Health Organisation’s and Global Citizen’s Together at Home live series.

“Right now the number one subject is the elephant in the room and I feel all the complaints of 2019 are put into perspective,” he said.

“I was so stressed about the publics opinions and touring and now that’s gone away.

“I’ve spoken to people I’ve been meaning to speak to for months.

“We’re blessed, when you think of the last generation going through this 100 years ago they had no form of entertainment. At least we can actually see each other in isolation.

“It’s amazing what a crisis can do to bring people together.”

Until the end of the year where you can see Didirri live at one of his many shows, you can tune into his Instagram feed and watch his many spell-binding performances from the comfort of his home.
