From the mind of Daniel Johns, get ready for one hell of a ride back to the 90s and beyond in a genre-bending, semi-autobiographical featurette that puts reality and fantasy in a hyper-speed spin cycle

Off the back of ‘FutureNever’, Daniel Johns‘ first full-length solo record since 2015’s ‘Talk’, comes an exciting new output from the Australian icon.

From the mind of Johns, the most decorated Australian musician of his generation, ‘What If The Future Never Happened?’ is a genre-bending, semi-autobiographical Featurette that puts reality and fantasy in a hyper-speed spin cycle.

It’s 1994, mere months before a teenage rockstar called Daniel (played by Rasmus King in this film) would conquer the global music world in ways never-before-seen. On this ordinary day in regional Australia, while escaping the routine torment of three local bullies (led by newcomer Lockie Ranson), a chance interaction with a mysterious figure from the future will change Daniel’s Tomorrow forever.

A Grammy, Emmy, ARIA and APRA winning composer, ‘What If The Future Never Happened?’ is soundtracked by Daniel Johns’ chart-topping solo album FutureNever interspersed with orchestral reinterpretations of his #Silverchair classics. Since its release in late April, FutureNever has broken ARIA chart history, becoming the longest-reigning Top 10 Australian album of 2022.

After changing the podcast game with his #1 #Spotify Original ‘Who Is Daniel Johns?’, ‘What If The Future Never Happened?’ is another bold and ambitious statement by the artist The Australian calls the nation’s ’Greatest Living Rockstar’.

Produced by Clockwork Films, Michael Hollis, Heath Johns and Heath George and directed by James Medlam, the forthcoming film will features a strong cast with King, Ranson, as well as Autumn Fawn, Kobi Williams, Quinlan Deakin, Charlie Farmer, Christian Morison, Christopher Jarret with Daniel Johns.

The film blurs the line between cinema and music video, shatters the boundary between biopic and sci-fi fantasy and further cements Daniel Johns as a pioneering creator making art that defies convention and boundaries.

Is there anything Daniel Johns can’t do? Stay tuned for more on this one.
