Corio Bay surrounded function centre, The Pier have taken to Facebook to announce their decision.
Iconic event and function centre, The Pier has today announced it will be ceasing business operations before Christmas. As the bay is taken over by the Floating Christmas Tree this weekend, the sad departure of the elevated function centre, with its uninterrupted views of the bay, is a massive loss for the events industry.
The venue has been operating out of the iconic Cunningham Pier some 250 metres out over the water, for around 15 years, revealing it will be changing hands next year after the commercial lease concludes on 22 December.

In a post to both Facebook and Instagram, and listed on The Pier’s website, the announcement reads, “A Heartfelt Farewell to The Pier Geelong. After 15 incredible years as Geelong’s iconic waterfront hospitality destination, The Pier Geelong will be changing hands in 2025. Our commercial lease will conclude on the 22nd of December 2024, marking the end of a cherished era.
The post continues, “We want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank our exceptional team—past and present—who have made The Pier what it is today. Your talent, dedication, and passion have shaped a space loved by so many. While this transition means our current team will be moving on to new opportunities, we are committed to supporting every staff member as they navigate their next steps.
“To our loyal customers: thank you for trusting us to host your weddings, celebrations, corporate events, and memorable dining experiences. We are proud to have been part of your stories and honoured to serve this community. Your support over the years has meant everything to us. As we reflect on this bittersweet moment, we hold our heads high, proud of what we’ve achieved together. While we don’t yet know what the future holds for this extraordinary venue, we hope it continues to bring joy to Geelong as it has for us.”
The Pier has been the host of weddings, award ceremonies including the Geelong Business Excellence Awards, high school graduations and more throughout its fifteen years. The change over of hands is still unknown with further developments expected in January of 2025.
