Jump into the rich stories of some of the worlds oldest cultures with Werribee Open Range Zoo.
This May, Werribee Zoo is putting on their Cultural Weekends program every Saturday and Sunday until the end of the month. A celebration of the rich Indigenous Australian and African cultures, through programs designed to get the whole family involved.
You’ll be able to learn and join in things like Mzuri dance and African drumming, making emu feather and gum nut necklaces, and sit in storytelling sessions with Wadawurrung Elder Aunty Judy, and South African musician and storyteller Valanga Khoza.
“We’re giving our visitors the opportunity to be immersed in both cultural offerings,” says Werribee Zoo Cultural Liaison Agum Maluach.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to educate our visitors about the role of wildlife and nature in the lives of both Indigenous Australian and African peoples.”
Running alongside the African Cultural days will also be Werribee’s super popular Village Market, with yummy food and drink and handmade goods stalls to cap off your experience.
The program’s cost is covered under normal Zoo admission, so there are no extra hidden fees, and children, like usual, get in for free on weekends and public holidays. So, it’s a perfect opportunity to bring the whole family down to have fun and educate yourself on the rich stories and practices of some of the world’s oldest cultures.
