Crooked Colours are back with their new single

One of Australia’s hottest rising acts in electronic music today, Crooked Colours are back with their new single, new video, and have announced their sophomore album for release early next year. Phew, what great news for a Friday!
We’re still obsessing over their last effort with their debut album ‘Vera’ (read our review here) where the trio excelled in creating mood with their unique take on indie-electronica. Taking out #1 spot on the iTunes Electronic chart and receiving a staggering 30 million collective online streams, the album soon took them all over the world, playing a total of 84 shows/festivals… and it’s really not surprising; the album is that tight.
Not showing any signs of slowing down, today’s single ‘I’ll Be There’ (taken from their sophomore LP due for release in early 2019 – yay) draws on from their well-known fusion of indie and electronica music but sees them successfully take on new sounds, injecting layered tribal influenced vocals, hypnotic loops, and driving synths throughout. They’ve changed gears and truly stepped it up with this release.
On the new single Phil explains, “The first release for an album is always difficult, but we felt that “I’ll Be There” is the perfect departure, whilst also shining light on what to expect for our next record. We were heavily influenced by spending 18 months on the road since releasing VERA and got a lot of insight into what was connecting from a live perspective. With this single we feel that we have the right balance between a track that’s just as enjoyable through a set of headphones as it is dancing along at one of our live shows or festivals.”
Having only toured locally prior to the release of ‘Vera’ it is a huge testament to the band, that in their first overseas ventures throughout 2017/18 they managed to sell out shows in Los Angeles, New York, London, Manchester, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Stockholm only naming a few.
Already kicking off a fresh run of dates with a debut performance in Japan, and a peak time slot at Australia’s premier festival Splendour In The Grass, Crooked Colours will be touring their new single ‘I’ll Be There’ to Melbourne’s 170 Russell on 30th & 31st August, before hitting up Snowtunes Festival in Jindabyne on 1st September, and finally heading back to Sydney’s Roundhouse on 7th September and Brisbane’s 256 Wickham on 8th & 9th September.
For an added treat, the boys are bringing local legends Yahtzel, Airwolf and Unearthed High wunderkind Ninajirachi, around the country with them. With a further 13-date tour of the United States recently announced, there are a plethora of opportunities to catch this captivating trio.
