Cosmic Psychos and Bored! lead Barwon Club festival, Negative Waves

Hold onto your beers, Negative Waves is back for 2022.

Coming from the team behind River Rocks at the Barwon Club, Negative Waves is a festival that’s been gracing the South Geelong venue since 2017.

Since the first edition of the festival, which saw the likes of Brant Bjork (USA), Nashville Pussy (USA), The Peep Tempel, Dwarves and more take to the stage, it’s an event that’s injected some serious energy into the live rock n roll scene in Geelong, sitting among mainstay pub events like River Rocks, River Rocks Rehab, VEEPED and JerkFest.

Having recently been postponed, Negative Waves is set to go ahead in 2022, hitting the BC on Saturday, June 25.

Originally created in honour of Bored! (a local punk rock band you would find at the BC every weekend), Negative Ways in back with an epic rock line-up, featuring none other than the band themselves – Bored!, making this a must-attend event.

“We are lucky to be from Geelong, the amazing talent that has come out of this town for the past 30 odd years is crazy, we have Magic Dirt, Warped, Dirty Lovers and the newer generations of King Gizzard, Orb, The Living Eyes, Ausmuteants, far to many to mention…” a spokesperson of the event said back in 2017.

“One band that has always done it for us, one band that brought Detroit to Geetroit, that band is Bored! And if we cant have Bored! playing every weekend like they used to at The Barwon Club we thought we would just create a festival in honour of them!”

Alongside Bored!, who will be digging deep into the catalogue to bring a show of all killer and no filler, Aussie punk legends The Cosmic Psychos will also headline the event, alongside the likes of Hits, Stiff Richards, Civic, Ute Root, Shanty Tramp, Amba Fear, and Swedish Magazines, among others.

This year, a hefty donation is being made from ticket sales to the late Dave Thomas’ family – vocalist and guitarist from Geelong’s Bored! as well as a one-time member of early Magic Dirt, who passed at the age of 56 after a battle with cancer in 2020.

As always, it will be a night of rock, reminiscing and drinking – and by the looks of this lineup, it’s going to be a huge night.
