Since the pandemic - and even before - there are a lot of people in the region that are struggling to stay afloat.
The cost of living never gets any cheaper, and it seems our dollars have to stretch further every week. For some, this can mean choosing between paying a bill, or being able to eat.
This weekend, the Corio Foodshare is holding a fundraiser to help meet an immediate need in our region.
Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.
The foodbank provides emergency food parcels to residents in Geelong’s northern suburbs to help fight food insecurity and relies heavily on the help of locals for donations to continue. The program is entirely volunteer-run with volunteering making and distributing food parcels to local community members experiencing food insecurity.
Each food parcel contains the essentials such as bread, milk, cereal and pasta as well as tinned goods. On a fortnightly basis, they get a small delivery from Food Bank which helps with these items, and weekly they collect items from Food Relief North Geelong.
Doing what they do best, on Saturday, June 11 from 9am to 3pm, Corio Foodshare is helping lift the community up with a market selling plants, bath and body items, knitted goods, and handcrafted wares, Tupperware and heaps more. There will also be food trucks on-site serving ice cream, jam doughnuts, hot chips, soft drinks, smoked meats and more, as well as raffles, prizes and a guess the number of lollies in the lolly jar, plus more.
All proceeds from stallholder fees and raffle tickets going toward purchasing more food so Corio Foodshare can continue fighting food insecurity in Geelong’s North.
