Colac’s newest eatery Babil is set to have you drooling

Words by Mackenzie Pennycook

Colac just scored a brand new, very exciting restaurant.

Meet Babil, the new dining destination that has opened on Colac’s Gellibrand street in the Oddfellows restaurant boasting a super cute exterior with great food to match.

The beautiful heritage building – built in 1891 – is set to the backdrop of Lake Colac, only two hours’ drive from Melbourne, and is on the doorstep of the Otways and Great Ocean Road.

With a private function room, capacity for 100 inside, 40 outside, and a private carpark, Babil will be serving up hearty Turkish and French cuisine in the centre of Colac. Think huge Turkish breakfasts, mouth-watering kebabs, classic lunches, hot and cold mezes, steaks, pasta, char-grilled delights, and hearty soups for the cooler months – all things well worth the drive if you’re thinking of making a day trip out to Colac. Our eyes are on the authentic Turkish Spread, Black Angus burger in a brioche bun, baba ganoush, grilled halloumi and the Babil banquet.

Fresh cheese, fresh bread and Turkish desserts (think rice pudding, Baklava, cheesecake) are also all on the cards, as well as an extensive range of both gluten-free and vegan options ensuring Babil is catering for everybody.

They’ve just posted their menu on their socials and it is huge! Check it out for yourself here.

You’ll fall in love with the food – we promise.

Serdar Basoglu, the restaurant owner has worked both within Australia and internationally and is pleased to be bringing his love of Turkish cuisine to Colac.

“Babil@Oddfellows is an exciting new chapter for us and an evolution in the way we want to express the experience of dining and hospitality,” says Basoglu.

“We are so grateful that the Oddfellows was so beloved and intend to continue offering genuine warm hospitality and showcasing incredible Turkish and French Cuisine.”

With food that looks incredible and is sure to taste as good as it looks, Babil is already set to be a new must stop for anyone living in Colac, or just passers-through.

Babil officially opened to the public on Friday, May 7 and will operate for lunch between 11am and 4pm for the next two weeks.
