Comedy Spotlight is the new Aussie initiative supporting local up-and-coming comedians

Nazeem Hussain and M&M’S have teamed up to launch the program, hoping to bridge the diversity divide by encouraging greater representation within the arts and entertainment industry. 

M&M’S, in partnership with comedian Nazeem Hussain, has announced its Comedy Spotlight – a platform to grow the careers and personal brands of some of Australia’s funniest, yet underrepresented comedy talent.

The M&M’S Comedy Spotlight will be hitting the Australian comedy scene in August 2022 to help bridge the diversity divide by encouraging greater representation within the arts and entertainment industry. The Comedy Spotlight seeks to support up-and-coming talent through mentorship, financial support and events.

You’ve got to love that!

During COVID-19 the arts sector was greatly impacted, M&M’S hopes the Comedy Spotlight and FUNd helps the industry re-established itself back to pre-pandemic levels.

The Comedy Spotlight will immerse new talent into the comedy industry, offering mentorship with Nazeem Hussain offering professional resources and career guidance, plus inclusion in a nation-wide campaign reaching millions of Aussies to help the talent grow their social channels.

Hussain is excited for the opportunity to give back to the comedy scene after overcoming their own adversity within the industry, offering unique and valuable advice for aspiring comedians.

“I’m incredibly proud to partner with M&M’S to support up-and-coming talent in the industry,” he says.

“Throughout the pandemic, it was young comedians on TikTok and Instagram that really provided laughs and entertainment in what was a difficult time. I hope that we can give back to these young guns by no longer overlooking inclusivity within comedy by empowering the next generation of comedians.”

The goal of the M&M’S Comedy Spotlight is to enact real change that helps all Australian’s feel that they belong and are represented within the arts and entertainment industry.

Research by M&M’S found that 50% of Australians think social media does not create a community where everyone belongs. This initiative comes in an effort to encourage greater representation in the comedy industry and help the industry re-establish itself back to pre-pandemic levels.
