Comedy comes to Geelong’s Old Courthouse building

Experimental dance, independent art film screenings, thought-provoking theatre, symposium and immersive art experiences; Platform Arts have dabbled in most forms of artistic expression.

The multi-purpose arts space, housed inside the Old Courthouse Building in Geelong, continually program bold and unique experiences for the curious creative community. It seems there is no territory untouched by the creative team at Platform Arts – they’ve even entered the world of marine biology – but this weekend they are bringing something out of the box into their Performance Space.

One-liners, hilarious anecdotes and outrageous punchlines, Platform Arts are jumping on the comedy bandwagon, bringing undeniably funny award-winning comedian Kirsty Webeck to Geelong. A stop on her I’ll Be The Judge of That tour, the Geelong show is bound to leave you breathless from the unstoppable laughter.

A fixture to our Australian comedy circuit having cut her teeth over the last decade in comedy clubs and at annual comedy festivals including Melbourne International Comedy Festival, as well as jumping up in comedy tents at Fall Festival, Webeck wins over her audience with ease at every show. Relatable, light-hearted, and upbeat, Kirsty Webeck carries the charisma of a cockatoo; loud, full of laughter and bloody entertaining.

Webeck recently added “international comedian” to her credits by performing at New Zealand Comedy Festival. She appeared on the Best Foods Comedy Gala which was televised on Three, and performed her solo show for five nights at The Classic Comedy Club. In addition, Webeck’s face has been on our televisions here, there, and everywhere, appearing on the likes of Tonightly with Tom BallardMetrosexualHow To Stay Married, SBS’s Celebrity Letters and NumbersThe Weekly with Charlie Pickering, The ABC’s Question Everything Seasons 2 and 3, Channel 10’s Just For Laughs, The Project, Today Extra and New Zealand’s 7 Days. Her voice has also been heard as a regular guest on ABC radio and comedy podcasts, making Webeck a household name.

In her road show, I’ll Be The Judge of That, Webeck leans into the laughs, “because the genre demands them”, speaking about her recently learned relationship with farmers, her harrowing experience with classical music and an airport adventure. Renowned for her audience interactions, Webeck will spitball as the night goes, with surprises for the audience and herself!

I’ll Be The Judge of That has been on the road since March taking to capital cities and regional centres across Australia. This year has also seen Webeck return for a 4th consecutive years to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, this time joining the Oxfam Gala 2024 and delivering a riotous routine. She also rejoined the panel on ABC’s Question Everything which returns to television tonight (Wednesday 9 October).
