Cocktails, bao and “I Do”: Tie the knot in Geelong with these new fun, fuss-free elopements

Got a spare hour? Annie The Celebrant is marrying couples every hour, on the hour on April Fools Day at Frankie.

If your plans to get hitched were upended by coronavirus, or you’re just keen to go against the grain with a unique union that keeps things simple, Paper Bear Photography and Annie The Celebrant have created the perfect solution to make your day one to remember – without the fuss.

Say hello to ‘Fools in Love’, fun, fuss-free elopements on April Fools Day at Geelong’s coolest bar, Frankie.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here

Here’s how it works. You and your love. Cocktails, baos, professional photography, nuptials and all legal paperwork for just $1100 (which is not bad considering how much weddings cost these days). It’s simple romance with all the planning done for you; a dope anniversary date that you might actually remember; and of course, an awesome day you will never forget.

Offering couples a unique perspective on ‘the big day’, Christian from Paper Bear Photography was inspired to create a fun and unique elopement experience after seeing so many couples turning away from tradition and opting for something more boutique and intimate.

“I see couples stressed about the pressure to have a big wedding or to include things in their wedding that they don’t even really want or like. An elopement is a chance to design your day so that it’s truly only about the two of you. You can still have a party later to celebrate with family and friends, but the burden of wedding traditions is much less once you have had your own private ceremony together.

“But just because it’s only the two of you it by no means has to be a quickie at the registry. An elopement can be fun and different and a bit out there, and that’s what we want to offer couples on April Fools Day.”

Having worked extensively on wedding events, Annie aka Annie The Celebrant said that the wedding landscape has changed dramatically since the start of the pandemic, with a growing trend towards elopements and micro weddings.

“It’s incredible to see the love shine through at an elopement. The vibe is so relaxed and fun – there’s no stress from weeks and months of intense wedding planning, much less worry about costs and no need for the couple to spend their wedding day playing host. It’s such an intimate and chilled experience.”

And the best part is you don’t need to spend hours trying to decide on a location. Frankie in Geelong provides the perfect bar setting for couples wanting to take the elopement plunge this April Fools Day. Housed inside one of Geelong’s most beautiful venues (with its high ceilings, large windows and architraves and intricate ceiling details), Frankie could be summed up as a perfect pastel diner, with all polished leather, beige leather couches, stunning art and soft rose-gold accents. It’s truly stunning and is a breath of fresh air when you’re looking for a romantic weekend on the Bellarine Peninsula, perfect for a marriage ceremony.

Ready to raise some eyebrows? ‘Fools in Love’ is happening on Friday 1 April 2022 and is the first elopement event of its kind in Geelong. Ceremonies are being held on the hour with limited spots available so get in quick to make it your best April Fools Day ever.
