Waves of emotion surged through the stands and fans throughout the country as the Matildas’ historical run at the FIFA Women’s World Cup came to a heartbreaking end at the hands of England, going down 3-1 in the semi-final on Wednesday night.
While the outcome of last night’s nail-biting match didn’t swing in our favour, with England playing Spain for the 2023 Women’s World Cup on Sunday, the Matildas will play Sweden on Saturday night at 6pm at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium in the 3rd placed playoff.

To celebrate the Matildas’ resolute performance on the global stage, the City of Greater Geelong has announced it would host a live site at Steampacket Gardens for the FIFA Women’s World Cup match against Sweden this Saturday.
