Geelong SES units were swamped yesterday with heavy, swirling rain and win hitting Geelong with a vengeance.
Posting on Facebook early this morning, the unit said it received hundreds of requests for assistance throughout the night.
“We got home about 1.30am this morning, with visions of dry clothes, showers, food and a cuppa in our minds. But it wasn’t to be. Mother Nature, decided to send some more wind our waye so by 2.19am we were heading off again!” – SES Geelong Unit on Facebook
“At 5.30am we headed for home again, with any hopes of catching any zzzzzz’s dashed, as we get ready for our day jobs and tasks.”
“We don’t have a final wrap of Facts & Stats to share yet, but we are told that by 8:15pm, VICSES had received over 240 (and climbing) requests for emergency assistance in the greater Geelong area and around 440 statewide today. Requests relate to: building damage, flash flooding and fallen trees.”
Multiple businesses across Geelong were hit hard by the storms, including Pakington Street’s Mia and Marlow Boutique whose verandah was crushed by a falling tree.
