With Castlemaine’s the Mill becoming a prime precinct for artisan makers, hospitality sites and producers, Shedshaker Brewing’s Taproom is the perfect addition to the 1870’s redeveloped woollen site which currently houses over 40 makers and businesses.
The new venue comes four years in the making with owners Jacqueline Brodie-Hanns and Doug Falconer seeing the site as an expansion to their thriving business model where the beer community and live music community combine, and meeting the production demand for their small batch beer company.
“It’s been a long road, so we are thrilled to finally get to show everyone what we have been working on for years now,” says Brodie-Hanns.
“The new Taproom is significantly larger than the well-loved previous space, which means we can host bigger shows, events, partiers – you name it. That said, we didn’t want to lose the intimate aspect of the old venue, so we have made it flexible to suit large and small crowds.”
The intimate community nature of Shedshaker Brewing won over locals with many becoming regulars to the previous site. With their sights still set on delivering great food and drinks to their loyal customers, and securing the best local talent for weekend performances the only, there are a couple of additional upgrades that come along with the move.

The new Taproom will feature Shedshaker’s range of quality beers but will be expanding their cocktail, wine and spirits list, as well as christening a new kitchen. Enlisting a new chef and a new menu to go along with the shiny new stoves, Shedshaker Brewing welcome Bec Murphy on board to deliver elevated eating. Murphy comes with a wealth of knowledge having been part of the hospitality teams in Central Victoria’s best eateries including Little Vic’s in Riddel’s Creek, the award-winning Source Dining in Kyneton and The Avoca Hotel.
Some things never change though, and their winning pizza is one of them! Shedshaker Brewing have opted to keep the favourite beer pairing on the menu.
The new Shedshaker Brewing Taproom is open today at the Mills precinct in Castlemaine from midday Tuesday to Sunday. Find out more about the space, or book a table here.
