With her infectious single ‘Talking To Yourself’ – the third track from her hugely anticipated just-released new album The Loneliest Time (Interscope Records/Universal Music Australia) – Jepsen returns to synth-tinged sonics. Rolling Stone calls it an ‘upbeat, ’80s-tinged dance-pop anthem’ underpinned by a ‘characteristically addictive bass line and an earworm chorus’ (Consequence).
Earlier this month, she followed up with the sparkling, disco inspired title track – a dynamic duet with renowned singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright. In the accompanying music video, Jepsen and Wainwright travel into a cosmic landscape, complete with a piano, glittering outfits and dance numbers.
Her most introspective body of work to date, The Loneliest Time expands on the emotionally potent song writing and effervescent sound that Jepsen has showcased on past work like 2015’s critically lauded and culture-shaping E*MO*TION.
A major creative milestone for Jepsen, E*MO*TION inspired in-depth analysis from cultural critics and landed on multiple year-end Best Of lists from the likes of Pitchfork, Stereogum, Noisey, NPR, and many more. Released in 2019, her follow-up album Dedicated covered even more musical ground. The Atlantic called the album ‘brilliant’ with its ’godlike bops’. She returned the following May with a gift for her fans: Dedicated Side B, a buoyant set of dance-floor tunes that affirmed her status as pop’s undefeatable ambassador of love.
Come and revel in the pure, feel-good joy of Carly Rae Jepsen, when she returns to Australia in March 2023.
