It’s Queens only this long weekend and we're absolutely here for it.

Geelong has always been a hub for electronic music, in particular when it comes to the local scene. In fact, considering the flurry of talented DJs and producers within our region starting to make it big and the large-scale acts constantly making the trek down, saying that we have one of the most emerging dance scenes in Australia would be an understatement.

This is what makes the ‘Captain Brewing Presents’ series all the more special.

The last few years have seen Captain become a staple amongst local techno heads, with the venue’s reinvention largely bringing back the sense of community that dance music was founded on. With a long list of locals on display every weekend, it’s become quite established as a spot to discover up and coming talent, with its cosy outdoor setting being the main stomping ground for most of Geelong’s club-goers.

‘Captain Brewing Presents:’, aims to take things a step further, with a focus on bringing some of the most notable names in electronic music down to a region for a series of intimate headliner shows. To kick things off, they are throwing a massive ‘Queens Only’ long weekend party.

Featuring a powerhouse all-female/non-binary lineup headed by one of Melbourne’s most renowned underground DJs Toni Yotzi, ‘Queens Only’ aims to further enhance and promote the diversity found within our local scene by highlighting the ‘queens’ of our region over three different events.

According to the venue’s co-owner Max McKay, “We’ve always booked local talent, (and we’re proud of that), however, the ‘Captain Brewing Presents’ series is less about local and more about sharing the good stuff.”

“For the long weekend, we’re putting on three big shows Friday – Sunday, with a powerhouse lineup of all-female/non-binary DJs. We’re really excited about it and have a great guest DJ for the first event – Toni Yotzi.”

If you haven’t come across Toni Yotzi yet, you’re in for a treat.

Originally from Perth, Yotzi has made quite a name for herself due to her selection of often forgotten deep cuts and off-kilter dance grooves. With her unforgettable sets at Golden Plains and most recently Hopkins Creek being festival highlights for many punters, Yotzi is now revered as one of the best underground Melbourne based DJ’s around.

Having initially heard about Geelong’s electronic community through veteran local DJ Patch Adams (Phillip Heads) (The Nash, Fake Chow), it’s been an area that she has been looking to explore for a while now, telling Forte,

“I’ve heard about the Geelong scene over the years from Phillips Head and how some of the clubs like Bloom have amazing sound systems. I loved how open-minded the crew was the last time I played in Geelong and I’m so excited to be back this Friday.”

With Yotzi headlining the Friday night, ‘Queens Only’ aims to further showcase local talent, with the likes of Barbie Gault, HAL, Honey Sweet, Eva Lleonart, Amityus and more all hitting the decks to bring in the all-inclusive long weekend shenanigans.
