Camperdown Cruise Rockabilly Weekender

The inaugural Camperdown Cruise has long been a highlight for hot rod lovers, rockabilly goers and visitors far and wide. The event sees enthusiasts travel from around the state, sometimes from outside of it, and this year’s event is sure to be no different. This year the cruise takes place on October 20-23.

Get the chop.

If you’ve come unprepared and don’t have the full rockabilly ‘do, head down to the special pop-up of Johnny Voodoos Barber Shop and get an old school greaser or rockabilly haircut all weekend. How many events can say it has its own on-site hairdresser?

Feel like the top Miss.

Miss Camperdown Cruise Pin Up Competition is a chance for rockabilly fashion-lovers to get out their best frocks, complete their finest pin curls and apply some serious red lippy in the hope of taking out the crown. Entries are closed for the 2016 comp, but that doesn’t mean watching a bunch of women vie for the top spot isn’t damn entertaining. On the line is a one of a kind trophy as well as a treasure trove of goodies from sponsors.

Get the moves.

So what’s the tally; there’s an onsite hairdresser, Miss Camperdown Cruise competition and now a dance competition? Every element of the rockabilly lifestyle is truly covered at this festival. If you think you’ve got the moves, the competition runs on Sunday, October 23 at the Camperdown Town Hall for amateur and professional level dancers.

The music.

You won’t get many chances to indulge in the high energy blues, swing and rocker bands like the ones that are at the cruise. Playing this year are; Jai Malano (USA), Eric Hokkinnen (USA), Eddie Gezel (France), Coral Lee (GER), Smokin pistol & Slim, Lincolns, Saucermen, Detonators, Phoenix, Peter Daffy Trio, Moonee Valley Drifters, Lucky 7, Hanks Jalopy Demons, Kieron McDonald, A band Called Twang, Itchy Fingers, Ezra Lee, Robyn And The Rancheros and Kitty Martini & the Tom Collins Trio.

And of course, the cars.

The car show will be held on the Saturday and Sunday along the main street of Camperdown (Manifold Street). It’s only fitting really that these custom hot rods get the best parks in town.
