Buckle up, a horror-only streaming service has landed in Australia

Stream your fears.

If you’re one of the types that believe horror films offer an elite, visceral viewing experience, and you’ve already binged the entire selection of Netflix, Hulu, Stan and Amazon Prime during the first lockdown, then we have something for you.

After years of teasing, Niche streaming service Shudder has just launched in Australia and it’s purely dedicated to horror films only.

Owned by U.S. entertainment company AMC, the service offers movies, TV series, podcasts, and live streaming events across the horror, thriller, and suspense genres. But due to existing licencing agreements, us Aussies can expect to see a different content library to what they have overseas.

With content uniquely Australia, you’ll find a number of original titles to peruse (including Cursed Films, a documentary series which details some of the most mysterious myths and legend behind some of Hollywood’s most infamously “cursed” productions), alongside a tonne of third-party content guaranteed to scare the life out of you. At a glance, these titles range from modern horror flicks like The Guest and It Follows, as well as classics such as Halloween 4 and 5, Maniac Cop and Hellraiser.

For interested horror fans, Shudder will cost just $6.99 a month or $69.99 for a yearly subscription, which equates to just $5.83 per month.

If you’re not ready to commit the dollars just yet, there is a free seven-day trial offered to new sign ups.

Currently Shudder can be streamed on PC and Mac via web browser and it’s worth noting that the majority of films hosted are in 720p with a few of the older ones in 480p so don’t expect the pristine 4K quality you get with the other services.
