Bryan Adams: The Ultimate Tour

In what is already promising to be a massive year for A Day On The Green, they set the bar high by bringing legend Bryan Adams to Mt Duneed Estate in Geelong on Friday January 12.
Despite the rain, thousands of punters in blue and yellow ponchos crowded the grassy area of the stunning winery for a stellar performance by both Daryl Braithwaite and Thirsty Merc; the perfect choices to warm up the audience for Adams’ signature brand of feel-good rock and roll and big ballads.
It was off to a flying start once Adams took to the stage to the ecstatic applause and high energy levels encompassing the venue. It was from that moment that everyone launched to their feet and began rocking to ‘One Night Love Affair’ and straight on to ‘Can’t Stop This Thing We Started’ and ‘Run to You’. Three songs in and he’d already delivered three massive hits to an eager crowd.
Dressed in jeans with white shirts and suit jackets, Adams and his band members delivered an entertaining twenty-six song performance. The set boasted more energy and power than one could imagine for Adams’ first ever performance in Geelong, in celebration of his brand new best-of album Ultimate. A stand-out was Keith Scott supporting Adams on lead guitar for a number of epic solos scattered throughout the show, a duet with Adams in place of Tina Turner for the epic track ‘It’s Only Love’ and even an over-shoulder-guitar-sling move at one stage, which sent the crowd wild.
While Adams has the ability to get a whole crowd dancing and grooving with classics like ‘Summer of 69’, ‘Back To You’ and ‘The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me is You’, it was when Adams slowed the pace of the evening with his beautiful, heartfelt ballads including ‘Heaven’, ‘(Everything I Do,) I Do It for You’, and ‘Have you Ever Really loved A Woman?’, that the performance was truly united with the audience. Punters were matching Adams line for line, swaying their arms and serenading each other over and over again.
Along with the classics, it was actually Adams’ performance of ‘Ultimate Love’ (also the first encore track) and ‘Please Stay’ that was warming to see. As his first new songs in more than two years, you would have thought they were among the classic anthems with the response from the audience and the tight performance from Adams and the band throughout. It’s a clear testament to Adams’ talent and his loyal following of fans that are just loving everything this talented musician creates.
However, it was Adams’ stage presence and interaction with the crowd that was the most endearing. Being an icon of epic proportions, with his music achieving number one status in more than 40 countries, the Canadian singer-songwriter still managed to come across as charming and humble as ever, filling the show with funny stories and even paying tribute to Aussie lingo at times.
Bryan Adams exceeded expectations in his Get Up! Tour. Worshipping Adams’ every move throughout the two hour set, fans left Mt Duneed Estate content with the warmth and musical talent that was bestowed upon them and overall was everything you would want to see from the well-seasoned singer.
