BrewiColo and Feed Me Bellarine unite for an epic collaboration brew, turning bread into beer

Two of our favourite places collaborating for an amazing cause, turning unwanted bread into craft ale with the aim to reduce food waste.

Four years ago, independent craft brewing company BrewiColo Brewing Co was born from the love of beer, and the sentiment of bringing something new and refreshing to the Ocean Grove community.

With the combined powers of local lass Kay Godfrey, and her partner Chilla, BrewiColo has become one of the best local destinations for its deliciously tasting beers and love of live music that pulls punters from all over town.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.

Inspired by Chilla’s Fijian background, the pet-friendly brewery represents everything you would expect with its chill vibe, fun palm tree logo, large outdoor area and of course the delicious craft beer. Amongst their ever-changing brewery range, you’ll find a handful of mainstays that is sure to please the beer aficionados out there.

Solidifying its place as a treasure in the Bellarine region, the beloved brewery has now teamed up with the amazing local organisation Feed Me Bellarine for a very special beer.

Founded by Lana Purcell, the community food project Feed Me Bellarine was launched three years ago to provide meals to families doing it tough. The charity feeds about 2000 families a week. It also runs a fresh produce supermarket and café where customers pay what they can. It’s even now expanded to include Geelong and the Surf Coast sharing more food with more community who needs it – no questions asked.

So what kind of beer do you get when two amazing businesses like this collaborate? A bread beer of course, one that aims to reduce food waste.

“Yes, that’s right we have turned bread into a beauty of a Brewi for you to enjoy!,” BrewiColo announced.

The beer has been brewed using bread donated by Feed Me Bellarine that would have otherwise gone to waste. Plus the spent grains from the brews are being enjoyed by the animals on the Feed Me farm.

To celebrate the brew, BrewiColo are hosting an epic launch party this weekend, on Sunday, August 14 from 1pm to 5pm.

The name of the new beer will be released on the day and there will be a Karma Keg on tap for those down for a Sunday sesh! As the name potentially suggests, they money raised from the new beer sales (from the Karma Keg) plus from raffles on the day will be donated to Feed Me Bellarine so they can continue their very important work within the community.

Head on down for a beer and support this awesome community collaboration initiative.

You can find out more here.

The brewery is located at 32 Marine Parade, Ocean Grove.
